CRAIG SWAMP CEMETERY aka PHILIPS CEMETERY, Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida

Directions: From Philips Highway take Old St. Augustine Road, cross the railroad tracks and the cemetery will be on the left. Parking is limited and difficult. Notes: This very old cemetery is owned by the Southern Genealogist's Exchange Society, Inc., P. O. Box 2801, Jacksonville, FL 32203. The city has recently done some major work on the roadway in front of the cemetery, and will be placing a fence around it. The area totals approximately 2 acres. There are veterans from several wars interred here, including Union as well as CSA soldiers from the Civil War, the Spanish-American War and World War II. Many markers have been destroyed through the years, and much work needs to be done. The oldest surviving marker is for J. C. Hudnall, who died August 8, 1867. Many interments before that date had cedar markers. The last interment was in 1976 for Chester W. Walker.
