Limona Cemetery, Brandon, Hillsborough County, Florida

This cemetery is of particular historical value since it is one of the few remnants left of a town in Hillsborough County, Florida that no longer exists. Many of the town’s founders are buried here. Most moved to the area from northern states. And many were of German descent. Limona officially became a town in 1876. Prior to being annexed in the 1970s by Brandon, a larger, neighboring town, Limona had its own post office. Limona was named for the citrus trees that proliferated in the area. The cemetery is in Brandon, about 15 miles east of Tampa. It’s precise location is at the corner of Bates Road and Lakewood Drive, about 2 miles north of State Highway 60. It is owned and operated by the United Methodist Church (Village Chapel).
