GREENWOOD CEMETERY, St. Petersburg, Pinellas County, Florida

Location: Greenwood Cemetery is located on the corner of Martin Luther King Street (9th Street) and 11th Avenue S. in St. Petersburg. The easiest route to Greenwood Cemetery would be to travel South on US 19 into St. Petersburg and turn East onto Central Avenue proceeding to 9th Street thence turning South onto 9th Street. Travel South on 9th Street to 11th Avenue. Notes: Greenwood Cemetery was established by St. Petersburg's first undertaker Henry P. Bussey at the edge of what is now historic Roser Park. Greenwood was first Platted in Hillsborough County in 1897 and re-platted in Pinellas County in 1915. The Cemetery changed hands several times over the years. In 1905 Henry Bussey sold his business to Senator Samuel D. Harris, who subsequently sold to J. H. Endicott in 1916. In 1922 J. H. Endicott released the cemetery property to plot owners and an the Greenwood Cemetery Association was formed. The current administrator of that association is Mr. Frank Ryll of St. Petersburg. Interesting to note that in 1926 several people were disinterred from Greenwood and moved to Royal Palm Cemetery due to the widening of 9th Street. Several individuals were moved into Greenwood when the Oaklawn Cemetery was closed down, thus some graves have death dates that precede the establishment of the cemetery.
